In early 2020 , I was invited to a rehearsal for the Accession Day Salute at Woolwich and then throughout the year I slowly started photographing the regiment a lot more. I began looking through the number of books in their history room, which contained imagery and memories of The Troop from years gone by.

I then thought to myself, that I would like to help contribute to this period in time for the regiment as they go through the pandemic, and HM Queen Elizabeth's 70th Year on the throne.

Seeing the hard work put in weekly by everyone, and the care and attention to detail taken with every horse is amazing. Being around the regiment has been a welcome escape from reality, with every event an opportunity to capture historic and memorable moments.

The first part of this project details the horses. All that are riding during the 2022 ceremonial season. Starting in January 2022, and finishing photographing the final horse in early May 2022, it has been four months of weekends and evenings outside of my normal job pursuing this.

I have gotten to know and understand each horse (I think), and definitely have a few favourites which are always a joy to see. Before we get started, I would like to thank Jonny for giving me the OK on this and everyone from all ranks and sections for helping me get each photo, and also eventually learn the names the horses! The inspiration for this project came from Rose of Daydream Equine Art and her 'Legends' series.
