19 Regiment Royal Artillery
Gunners of 19 Regiment Royal Artillery took up the King's Guard in October and November 2023. 19RA are the local artillery regiment of the Scottish Highlands and can trace their lineage back to 17 Brigade Royal Field Artillery which was formed in 1900 but the individual batteries date back to the 18th century.
In May 1940 it had the honour of being the first artillery regiment to fire in the war while stationed at the Maginot Line. It served during the North African and Italian campaigns. Following being renamed to 19 Regiment Royal Artillery in 1947, they deployed to Korea and Aden and more recently, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Their name "The Scottish Gunners" was given to them after 40 Regiment Royal Artillery were placed in suspended animation. As they are a Scottish regiment, their Pipes and Drums wear the "Robertson" Tartan, which was inherited from the original Loyal Clan Donnachie Volunteers raised in 1803, a unit of irregulars raised on Clan Robertson–Donnachaidh–Duncan lands.
The batteries that form 19RA are:
- 5 (Gibraltar 1779–1783) Battery
- 28/143 (Tombs Troop) Battery
- 38 (Seringapatam) Battery
- 127 (Dragon) Battery
- 13 (Martinique 1809) Headquarters Battery
